My “Everything is Monsters” pieces are in group show of miniatures which opens Saturday, October 7th 6-10 P.M. at the NOLA ‘NACULAR Studio & Gallery, 1172 Magazine Street at Erato. They will be for sale along with some tiny monster zines.
Tomorrow is the year anniversary of our dear friend Billy’s death.
As Asa remarked when I told him, “Seems so fast! How can it have already been a year?”
I did a great workshop with an artist whose style I love, Nicole Georges. One of her comics is to take animals, vegetables, fruit, and give them her thoughts or memories. Once she wrote about a bad ex-boyfriend and drew him as ridiculous carrot, so she was entertained by telling the story. I love her animal advice, like these (they are available to buy as printable calendars on her website):
We made a four panel story from a memory she helped us find from our own lives. I used snakes. In the draft, they were armless, then I tried adding stick arms. You can see below, I started a list of possible creatures to use.
I asked the boys for help deciding and they suggested sticking with snakes but use their tails, like the snake in the Robin Hood cartoon:
I wasn’t sure what to do about Mom’s responses. I don’t exactly remember, except these were questions I wanted to ask but I also knew they drove her crazy. Perfect!
For the final draft, I decided to leave out her responses entirely:
A beautiful song, “Blush” by Wolf Alice - it was in the second season of Heartstopper which continues to have such a great soundtrack.
Love all a’ ya’ll
through time
& space
