Terribly sad news.
Our beloved friend, Billy Sothern, died last week.
I knew last Friday, but it wasn’t public yet. Rumi was for him.
As was Bellyache, one of his and his oldest kid’s favorite songs.
We told the boys, they are good friends with Billy’s kids. Ugh.
Listened to songs in the car that made me cry.
Watched the sky, always beautiful, impossibly so.
Swam a lot, the small blue tiled squares a comfort below my thoughts.
Spent time outside.
Gathered with friends in shock and disbelief.
A friend sent me this screenshot yesterday.
Heartbreak.
Not ready for words, I copied art all week.
Mostly monster-guardians. Many grew in significance as I drew and painted.
Maybe I’ll draw monsters all month as we approach the Day of the Dead, a time when many cultures believe the veil between the living and the dead grows thin.
Below, except for the snake plant, all of the art is copied. Most are from Jac Dellaria’s instagram (who I found via the “random” button on this site). The rest are from Lynda Barry’s book Making Comics.
One of the songs I’ve listened to on repeat this week. Only an artist like Lil Nas X could write beautiful lyrics about a flat inflatable mattress.
Love all a ya’ll
through time & space
XO
Cassie
I’m so sorry, Cassie. Sending love and hugs to you, David and the boys.
Sending love, Cassie. Sorry for the loss of this dear friend. Sounds like he was a blessing.
