My “Everything is Monsters” pieces are in group show of miniatures which opens THIS Saturday, October 7th 6-10 P.M. at the NOLA ‘NACULAR Studio & Gallery, 1172 Magazine Street at Erato. They will be for sale along with some tiny monster zines.
When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I went to a summer camp. I think it was the summer after 7th. I remembered this scene for some reason. The camp is still around, but when I went it was really just three houses: the boys cabin, the girls cabin, and the mess hall/rec center. They would take kids from overseas (this seems to not occur anymore) and keep them all summer. I had a very brief romance with Giovani, from Italy.
Here’s my draft on paper, to the right are notes about what I remember. Giovani was from Italy and though he’d invited me to the camp dance, his last night.
He was late to the dance. He arrived and told me he had just gotten a Gameboy at the mall. Is that the right tech for that time? One thing I remember about Giovani for sure was that he wore, at least to the dance, a head to toe matching jumpsuit!
I drew us a lizards. I forget what I wore, and will have to now go look for pictures, but I pretended I had on a hypercolor shirt.
