I got the printed anthology in the mail this week! I’m so proud. Mine looks even better in print. Lots of very different non-fiction stories and comic styles.
If you missed it, see last week’s post for my exciting announcement:
Below is the full comic:
David and I finally watched Katrina Babies on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It is stunningly well done, and heartbreaking. Director, and a Katrina Baby himself, Edward Buckles Jr. says:
“In America, especially in a disaster, Black children are not even a thought. Hurricane Katrina caused one of the biggest disbursements of Black people in history. Nobody ever asked the children how they were doing, so I am.”
The songs this week are all from Katrina Babies:
Lil Buck dances to Pastor T. L. Barrett and the Youth for Christ Choir
The haunting song in the background of the trailer is “Concrete Rose” by New Orleans based Shvkiel (on Soundcloud as well as Spotify)
“HIGGS” by New Orleans native, Frank Ocean who was working on his English degree here at the University of New Orleans when Katrina hit
Love all a ya’ll
through time
& space

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks!
So excited for you! And loved Higgs - thanks so much for sharing that; huge Frank Ocean fan but somehow missed that one on his visual album.
