We were lucky enough to be away some this summer. School started Monday, way too early, but the boys are already settling into the routine.
The boys went to camp again this summer, both for THREE weeks this time! They loved it. David and I took advantage and were able to stay in an empty friend’s apartment in Barcelona for two weeks. It was harder on me to do that big of a trip than I was expecting, I got a cold right away, and not being in control of my food was stressful at first. The best part was having that much time to spend together. We did whatever we wanted, but mostly we walked and talked and ate, & walked and talked and ate.
Before and after Spain, we were in the mountains of NC and VA. It was so nice to have a break from the extreme heat New Orleans has been experiencing since we left in JUNE. It’s still so hot, the heat index has consistently been over 110 degrees. Brutal.
Here are some pictures:
I was so deeply sad to have lost such a fearless soul as Sinead O’Conner.
A friend and writer wrote this wonderful piece about how she was never truly appreciated by the press or the music industry in her lifetime:
Throughout a frequently thwarted 40-year career, O’Connor was treated by most interviewers not like a chart-topping recording artist, but like a schoolgirl who’d been sent to the principal’s office. They questioned her hairstyle, her lifestyle, her parenting choices and her sanity. When her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” made her an international sensation, they asked if her tears were real and whether she had anything to do with the making of the award-winning video.
Rarely did anyone ask her about the crafting of the music itself—about how a 15-year-old Irish girl who got her first guitar from a nun built an epic ballad like “Troy” off of three chords, or how she learned to bend notes to the breaking point and back again with just her voice.

Here she is with “Famine” and then “This is a Rebel Song”
Love all a ya’ll
